Bring the fun of water play to their level with the Water Table. Set at 2-feet tall, the Water Table is a hollow plastic tube that a swallow basin at the top. Toddlers and preschoolers are able to easy reach into the basin to splash, play, pour water, and more. The table itself is secured to the surface with an in-ground mounted system. This ensures that the entire table stays in one place and steady. Perhaps one of the best features of this design is the lift and empty water bowl. Just lift, rinse, and put back when children are finished playing. This also means that although the table is 2-feet tall, its just a little bit of water that children are actually playing in.
Water play provides a number of developmental benefits to young children. Firstly, water is sensory play. The movement, feel, sounds, and sights are all different from most other materials and stands in contrast to sand play as to how the material reacts. Secondly, it encourages the use of fine motor skills. When children are pouring water from one vessel to the next or even just into the table again, they are engaging their fingers and hands to grip and move. Finally, it is a social activity. Rarely does a child play in water alone in a playground situation. This is a group activity where they share "tea," splash together, and explore how objects move through it.
If you like the Water Table and want to offer an even more involved variation of this, be sure to check out both the Double and Triple Waterways. The biggest difference is that the downward slope and multiple points for flow restriction allows for a greater understanding of water flow.
